The contacts screen

The contacts screen allows users to view the contacts online status and the Gmail inbox status at a glance. The LED in the title bar depicts the online status of the signed in user. Contacts are organized in two groups, the "Online" and the "Offline" groups. Recent conversations contacts are grouped together for fast access to those conversations. Each list item within a group represents one contact and displays the name of the contact, the online status, the contact’s avatar and optionally, if the user location is known, text which indicates last time when location information was received from that contact. If there are unread messages from a contact, a red marker appears over the contact avatar indicating the number of unread messages received from that specific contact. On the right side of the title bar IM Friendly! displays the count of unread e-mail messages in the Gmail inbox.

The main menu allows the user to navigate to various application screens such as the online status screen, the import contacts screen, Gmail notifications screen and the preferences screen.

By long pressing a contact the users have the option of opening the conversation with that contact, removing the contact from the contacts list or reinviting that contact. You can also simply click on a contact to open the corresponding conversation.

The online status screen

The online status screen allows you to set your online status to either online, busy or offline. You can create up to four custom status messages and busy messages which you can use later.

The conversation screen

The conversation screen allows you to exchange messages with your IM contacts. The title of the conversation screen displays the contact name and its online status. Each contact has its own conversation screen which displays messages previously sent to and received from that specific contact. The most recent sent or received message is displayed at the bottom of the message history list. Each list item displays the text message, the avatar of the sender and the optional emotion icon. From the conversation screen you can send text and location messages and you can view the content of received messages.

To send a location message or insert an emotion symbol in a text message you can use the corresponding menu items. You also have the option of e-mailing an entire conversation or clearing the conversation history.

By long pressing a message you have the option to forward a message to another contact, e-mail that specific message or resend it. If you receive a text message which contains phone numbers, e-mail addresses and web links you have the option to open these items by taking the appropriate action.

You can quickly switch conversations by swiping your finger left or right across the screen.

The preferences screen

IM Friendly! allows you to customize your preferences and set your buddy icon and your friendly name. Below you will find a list of preferences.

Display an ongoing notification which shows your connections status.

Option to set the online status to idle after a configurable number of minutes.

Option to automatically mark IM and e-mail messages as read.

Enable or disable Gmail notifications.

Enable or disable the phone vibrator for IM and e-mail notifications.

Enable or disable the phone LED for IM and e-mail notifications.

Set the LED color.

Option to display a window when receiving an IM or e-mail message.

Select IM ringtone.

Select e-mail ringtone.

Select custom IM ringtones for up to eight buddies.

The location screen

The application allows the user to send the current geo location to a contact. You can view sent or received geo locations on a map.

The Inbox screen

The Inbox screen displays Gmail notifications and IM invitations.

To view the contents of a Gmail notification, click the notification. This action will open the web browser which will allow you to sign in into your Gmail account to read the entire e-mail.
